Fleets are turning to telematics and connectivity to further maximize vehicle uptime, says Ash Makki, product marketing manager for Volvo Trucks North America.
The company – one of the leading heavy truck and engine manufacturers in the world – produces a broad line of on-highway and vocational Class 8 vehicles.
Like other heavy truck OEMS, Volvo Trucks is also developing connected vehicle technologies.
Like cell phones, connected trucks require software updates. But fleets don’t like to have to bring a truck to a shop to get it “updated” because this causes costly downtime.
To address this issue, truck OEMs are now using their telematics hardware to perform over-the-air software updates with remote programming.
Truck OEMs are leveraging the data that their trucks generate.
