Tool Review: Fluke Manufacturing 233/A digital multimeter

Oct. 1, 2010

The Fluke 233/A digital multimeter features a detachable wireless display. By sliding the wireless display out of the meter body, the user can place the display where it is most visible, up to 10 meters from the test point, while putting the meter in the best position to connect to the test circuit. The detachable display enables users to find a comfortable position to view test data when the test location is hard to reach or in a hazardous, dirty or noisy environment.

The review

Paul Leow, a PTEN review panelist and shop owner in Wauwatosa, Wis., liked the Fluke 233/A multimeter as having all the regular features he expects. The main selling point of the meter, the detachable face, was a big hit for Paul who works alone at his shop.

"That 233 is awesome," Paul said. "The big thing is the detachable head ... when you're working by yourself in the shop you don't have to run wires all over the place. The face was easy to read and it was easy to use.

"It's very easy to use and self-explanatory," Paul said. "The standard AA batteries in the base and head were easy to replace; the temperature probes were a helpful addition.

"The screen is really clear and easy to read, even in sun-glare conditions," Paul said. He added that the readings are precise and don't "bounce around" too much.

"Overall, it's great," Paul said.
