Acquisition strengthens Cequent's role in the automotive aftermarket.

Cequent Consumer Products, a provider of automotive aftermarket products and household cleaning tools, announces the asset purchase of Harper Brush Works, Inc. located in Fairfield, Iowa.

“Acquiring Harper, who has a strong brand name in the cleaning tool business, gives us an opportunity to add to our cleaning tool product offerings,” said John Aleva, president of Cequent Consumer Products. “We have been leaders in the automotive market for years and now we are strategically paving the way to become the leading manufacturer and distributor of cleaning tool products for both residential and industrial markets.”

Since 1900, Harper has been manufacturing high quality cleaning tools for the retail and commercial markets. Cequent will utilize the Harper assets as a strong foundation to continue operations in Iowa. Harper is the second cleaning tool brand Cequent has purchased this year. Laitner Brush, an American broom and brush manufacturer since 1855, was acquired by Cequent in February. With the combination of Harper and Laitner, Cequent now has over 250 years of history and expertise in the broom category to advance their market penetration strategies.

Harper was founded by entrepreneur, Alphonso K. "A.K." Harper of Fairfield, Ia. in 1900. Harper was just 20 years old when he was inspired to improve the cleaning tools his mother was using.

Harper’s brushes blossomed from the work of college students hired part-time to make the brushes that Harper sold from wagons in the early 1900's. Since then, Harper has continued to expand with high quality innovative products in the marketplace.
