Q: How can a lift act as a vehicle diagnostic and increase shop revenue?
Steve Perlstein, sales manager, Mohawk Lifts: The use of a weight gauge acting as a scale on the lift can help diagnose vehicle problems and raise revenue per vehicle to upsell parts such as load levelers versus shock absorbers, better brake pads versus less expensive or better quality tires versus a lower ply tire.
By example, if your customer with a Crown Vic complains of poor mileage after a tune up or poor drivability after an alignment, yet your lift shows this particular Crown Vic weighs 6,000 lbs, you can recommend that the customer remove the added weight that may be in the trunk of the car (a Crown Vic weighs 3500 lbs). By recommending this, you can visually show your customer that his or her vehicle weighs much more than it should and provide a solution to why the handling and/or mileage isn’t what he or she expected.
