Due to recent trends towards low-profile tires with wider and lower aspect ratios and run-flat tires, breaking down the tire bead has become more and more difficult and time consuming.

The difficulty is due to the design of larger mounting humps and a more pronounced bead area for higher safety and performance. Specific demounting guidelines have been developed to address the change and ensure the tire, wheel and equipment used with professional competent staff. The demounting guidelines describe each step and gives additional hints as to special environments which have to be considered.

Corghi Artiglio (AM) model tire changers have the technology to break down these wheel assemblies without damaging the tire or wheel. This capability allows one operator to the wheel assemblies in minimum amount of time.

1. Mount wheel assembly to the turntable

2. Position the sensor in relation to the mount/demount head at 6 o’clock

3. Position the bead breaker roller below the rim flange activating the bead lock

4. Apply 2-4 pumps of pressure and rotate clockwise 8-10 inches

5. Apply 2-4 pumps of pressure and rotate counter-clockwise 8-10 inches

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until bead is broken

7. Rotate the wheel 360 degrees to completely separate the bead

Perform the same procedure to break the bottom bead. Note that using a liquid or paste tire lube during these steps will shorten the total amount of repetitive steps needed.
