Ryder System, Inc., a leader in commercial fleet management, dedicated transportation, and supply chain solutions, announced a $50,000 grant to Mohawk College, one of Ontario, Canada’s largest skilled trades and apprenticeship colleges.

The grant - which supports Ryder’s investment in recruiting and retaining the best diesel technicians in the industry - will be awarded to the school over the course of the next five years. It will go toward a major redevelopment project that will benefit Mohawk’s current and future students, enhance accessibility to college education, and provide benefits to faculty, staff and the broader community. Additionally, the college’s Stoney Creek campus, which serves approximately 4,000 students, has designated a classroom that will be named after Ryder.

“It’s important at Ryder that we continue to invest in the best talent in the industry, and that includes creating a pipeline of talent to fill skilled positions in the future,” Vice President of Operations, Ryder Canada, Jerry Brown said. “Our partnership with Mohawk will help to enhance the educational experience for the next generation of technicians in Canada and keep Ryder top of mind as an employer of choice for Mohawk students when they graduate.”

Mohawk will host an event at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 at their Stoney Creek campus to honor the new partnership and to unveil the Ryder-sponsored classroom. Brown; Paul Ayotte, Ryder Canada Director of Operations; and Ron McKerlie, Mohawk College President & Dean, will all be guest speakers.

“Ryder’s generous investment will help us expand our skilled trades campus,” said Mohawk College President Ron McKerlie. “We’re excited to open a new building, where students and apprentices from different programs and trades will develop their skills by working together on major projects.”

Ryder representative say they has the best technicians in the industry and values the importance of technical training for ensuring the quality maintenance of its more than 230,000 total vehicles managed, and a commitment to quality customer service for Ryder’s lease and maintenance customers.
