Ask the Expert: Which clutch is better, a manual or a self-adjusting clutch?

Nov. 17, 2016
For a hydraulic clutch linkage, a self-adjusting clutch is the better option.

Q: Which clutch is better, a manual or a self-adjusting clutch?

A: For a hydraulic clutch linkage, a self-adjusting clutch like the Eaton Solo Advantage or recently released Eaton Evertough self-adjusting clutch is the better option. These clutches are distance sensing and maintain the proper 1/2" distance between the clutch release bearing and clutch brake. These self-adjusting clutches were specifically designed with hydraulic linkages in mind. A key design goal of these clutches was to maintain the proper release bearing position with a hydraulic linkage, something a manual clutch fails to do.
