SOLD17 presents top recommended tools and equipment from technicians

A representative from each company was on-hand to provide SOLD17 attendees with information on time-saving, labor-saving, and profitable product ideas.

The fifth annual SOLD17 (Service Opportunities Learning Days) two-day training event for commercial vehicle aftermarket professionals was held January 22-23 at the Mirage in Las Vegas, prior to the start of HDAW '17.

The list is compiled of responses from ACOFAS members and technicians who attended SOLD17. Participants were asked to provide their recommendation for the best tool or piece of equipment that they've purchased and used in their shop, within the last year. The panel of experts was moderated by PTEN Editor Erica Schueller.

The most recommended tools and equipment seminar featured the following products:

  1. Doctor Preload, invented and manufactured by Temper Axle and distributed by Meritor
    • Presented by Ray Piascik, Vice President, Marketing and Sales for Temper Axle Products Corporation
  2. Hendrickson Rear Suspension Bushing Press Tool developed and distributed by both Hendrickson and OTC
    • Presented by Norm Stachelek, District Sales Manager, Hendrickson
  3. Delphi Off Vehicle Injector and Fuel System Diagnostic Equipment, developed and distributed by Delphi Product & Service Solutions
    • Presented by Harshad Joshi, Technical Trainer, Delphi Product & Service Solutions
  4. DCM flywheel and disc brake rotor surface grinder produced and distributed by DCM Tech
    • Presented by Randy Taylor, Sales Manager, Automotive Aftermarket, DCM Tech

Each company representative provided a brief presentation highlighting the features and benefits of their tools, some including short videos demonstrating the product.

In addition to the tool and equipment session, other events during SOLD17 included a discussion on the future of trucking technology, presented by industry spokesman Derek Kaufman; educating your entire operation on reduced stopping distance (RSD) and updates to ABS, steering wheel sensors, collision avoidance systems and more presented by Paul Jones, Service Engineer, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Solutions; the continued discussion on the technician shortage, and how organizations in the industry are addressing this issue; and training technicians versus developing a culture within the shop, presented by Robert (Bob) Greenwood.
