Tech Tip: Use the right crimper for the proper wire and end connector

Dec. 23, 2019
Most users treat wire crimping as something that doesn’t require any specific requirements as far as how to use the tool.

More than I care to admit, I see this exact scenario a lot in the field. Most users treat wire crimping as something that doesn’t require any specific requirements as far as how to use the tool. Too often we see the wrong size wire being used, the wrong type of end connector used and, worse, the wrong type of crimping. Some users have a mindset that the harder you squeeze an end connector on a wire, the better the crimp. This is as far from the truth as possible. An incorrect crimp tends to squeeze the wires to a point that it breaks some of the wires which in turn can lose continuity. That’s why we always recommend using a self-adjusting crimping tool. The self-adjusting action completes exactly at the end of the crimp providing the perfect crimp. Also, make sure you have the right size wire with the right type of end connector.
