Tool Review: Diesel Laptops TEXA Truck Tool with Level 3 Support

The reviewer was pleased with the tool’s ability to scan several different software systems.

With each passing year, the technology within vehicles is increasing, creating more complicated systems and issues that a wrench alone may not be able to fix. Technicians need tools on the same level as the problems they are solving, so the diagnostic tools they use must keep up with vehicle technology. Diesel Laptops’ TEXA Truck Tool with Level 3 Support provides technicians with the ability to stay up to date.

Paul Summerlin, area maintenance manager at Red Classic Transit in Charlotte, North Carolina, was pleased with how the tool was able to save him time while working diagnostic jobs.

“It connects faster to the equipment,” Summerlin says, “and once you learn how to use it, the processes are easier.”

Though the software is fairly intuitive, any new tool — especially a diagnostic tool — can take some getting used to before its full potential can be reached.

“Once you get past the learning curve, it’s pretty simple,” Summerlin says. “I had technicians that were able to figure it out with little training.”

The TEXA Truck Tool Support package did not come with a manual, but Diesel Laptops offers online training once a week as well as the video training that comes with the purchase. The video training helps users navigate through the software, Summerlin says. For more hands-on training, Diesel Laptops also offers in-classroom training for their products.

Summerlin appreciates that the tool’s software connects with “pretty much anything.”

His favorite part of the tool is that, “when you connect it, it scans the entire vehicle not just the engine or [transmission],” he says. “It looks at everything.”

Around the shop, Summerlin uses the software for fleet diagnostic repairs.

In the past, the Red Classic Transit maintenance manager has used previous versions of this tool. Using the current version of the software, Summerlin noticed that the coverage has improved on what the tool will connect with and read.

Summerlin is happy with the TEXA Truck Tool Support package and its ability to scan several different software systems with just one tool.
