Lewis and her late husband Jim founded the Hotrod & Restoration Trade Magazine and the annual Hotrod and Restoration Trade Show in Indianapolis in 1997. The couple also founded the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, which is given to a deserving pioneer who has had a positive impact on the genesis, growth, and well being of hotrodding. Past recipients include Wally Parks, Carroll Shelby, George Barris, the Ford Family, and others.
During her five-year tenure, the magazine grew from four to twelve issues per year, while the show expanded significantly. Her hard work earned her several accolades, including: 2003 Good Guys Woman of the Year, 2005 SEMA SBN Business Woman of the Year, and 2005 SEMA-HRIA Industry Recognition of an Individual.
“We are very happy to bring Debbie on board,” says Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director, Terry Karges. “Her experience, enthusiasm, and passion for our cause make her a natural fit for this institution. The Petersen has a lot to offer businesses that work with us, and Debbie will help nurture those relationships.”
“I am honored to be asked to join the team,” says Lewis. “Mr. and Mrs. Petersen were both such great people, and helping to preserve their legacy in the fields of education and automotive culture is something that I am excited to be a part of. There are many wonderful opportunities on the horizon for companies to make their mark and give back to the community through their support of the Petersen Automotive Museum. ”
