By exiting the OBD-II plug coupler at a right angle, the wire does not interfere with the feet of the driver and is routed up and over the steering column to the attached OBD-II scan tool. The cable is constructed of heavy-gauge, shielded copper wires that offer a reliable connection to the scan tool and help prevent interference from nearby electronics. Additionally, the extension cables can be used to provide a permanent connection to the scan tool cable, thereby reducing the chance of premature wear and tear from repeated connections to the OBD-II interface port.
