Auto parts supplier to lay off more than 100 workers

Nov. 21, 2024
Martinrea called the event “unexpected” as job cuts begin after Thanksgiving.

Auto parts manufacturer Martinrea, with a facility outside of Kansas City, Missouri, announced plans to lay off 144 employees in the coming weeks, reported The Kansas City Star. To meet legal requirements regarding mass layoffs, the company stated it would permanently cut 69 jobs as early as December 5, followed by another 75 by January 17.

The layoff timeline may shift depending on updates from a customer for whom the facility produces parts. While the notice did not identify the customer, Martinrea indicated the layoffs stem from the client accelerating product schedules and ending future production agreements.

Martinrea called the situation “unexpected,” with the majority of the layoffs affecting production associates, with 50 positions set to end on December 6 and 39 more in January.
