Actron released airbag coverage for its U-Scan dongle + app code reader pairing, allowing access to vehicle codes and definitions specific to airbag warning lights.

Airbag codes are also paired with CodeConnect® to help easily identify and fix vehicles. Previously, this data was only available in scan tools at a significantly higher price point.

“Our customers have been asking for this since U-Scan’s release, an important update in knowing what’s happening with their vehicles,” said Jennifer Grabowski, Actron Product Manager of Diagnostics; “and with the addition of airbag coverage, U-Scan provides professional grade diagnostics. As with other U-Scan in-app upgrades, users need only purchase coverage for the vehicles they own, or all makes and models.”

Several common reasons exist for an airbag warning light in a vehicle, including:

-        A vehicle was involved in a collision

-        An airbag sensorstops working

-        Airbag network wires are broken, pinched or otherwise not working properly

“The major issue here is safety,” added Grabowski. “Our customers want to ensure a vehicles safe to drive, and checking airbag codes can help determine a fix for a safer vehicle.”

In addition to expanded coverage, base U-Scan upgrades include:

-        Improved supportfor iOS7

-        U-Scan Mart coverage chart to check vehicle coverage

-        Minor bug fixes, including those affecting in-app upgrades

The upgrade will be available in both the Google Play and iTunes store for download.

Plugging directly into a vehicle’s OBD II port, U-Scan helps users instantly communicate with their vehicle via the U-Scan app on their iOS or Android device. Using Bluetooth wireless connectivity, U-Scan assists vehicle owners in diagnosing and resolving automotive issues, saving time and money.

Compatible with all 1996 and newer cars and light trucks, the U-Scan base model features:

-        Emissions info, vital to users in states requiring annual emissions tests

-        QuickCheck™, summarizing vehicle emissions codes and definitions; erases codes and turns off check engine light

-        AutoID™, to automatically identify most model year 2000 and newer vehicles

-        TrueLink™,guaranteed to link to all 1996 and newer vehicles

-        Vehicle ActivityLog, providing a history of vehicle tests and procedures

-        MyGarage vehiclemanager for quick and easy access to vehicle data

Available U-Scan upgrades include:

-        CodeConnect®, offering more than 4.3 million Top Reported Fixes, prioritized by most likely fix, specific to the vehicle’s make, model and year, and verified by our ASE certified technicians

-        ABS code definitions related to warning lights for most 1996 and newer GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota vehicles
