Wells Vehicle Electronics expands Wisconsin manufacturing plant
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker joined the leadership team and staff of Wells Vehicle Electronics, a global manufacturer of advanced vehicle electronics, to celebrate the grand opening of the company’s manufacturing plant expansion and corporate office relocation.
The building project, which broke ground in September 2012, increased Wells’ Wisconsin-based manufacturing space by nearly 40 percent and relocated Wells office employees to a new facility attached to the company’s manufacturing plant.
“Wells Vehicle Electronics has called Fond du Lac, Wis., home for 110 years,” Don Lauby, vice president of operations for Wells, said. “Our 64,000-square-foot addition features engineering labs, test labs, a state-of-the-art automotive tech garage, a tool room to support new product development and a home for corporate employee offices.”
The Wells Tech Garage provides engineers and designers additional bays for on-vehicle application and product testing, a space for the Technical Services team to host industry- and training-related webinars, and an area to continue producing the company’s YouTube instructional videos.
“With support from the city, Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wells was able to keep our headquarters in its birthplace, retain our existing job force, institute a plan to increase our employee count by 30 percent over the next two years, and continue to design and deliver superior products for our customers,” David Peace, president of Wells, added.
A part of UCI-FRAM Group, Wells Vehicle Electronics was established in 1903 and manufactures more than 38,000 parts, including distributor caps and rotors, ignition coils, control modules, sensors, wire and cable sets, emissions components, switches, fuel system components and voltage regulators.
