The Sioux Center City Council approved a land sale and economic development agreement with NAPA Auto Parts during its meeting on Nov. 18. The agreement supports NAPA’s plan to rebuild in the Brookview Addition, west of Scooter’s Coffee, after a devastating lightning strike destroyed its previous location in April.
The city will sell a portion of a 2.8-acre lot along 11th Street Northwest to Shawn Andringa, operating as NAPA of Sioux Center, for $180,000. Plans for the new two-story facility, led by John Vander Haag of Vander Haags, include retail space on the ground floor and offices above, with construction expected to begin in 2025. The expanded facility will accommodate increased online sales operations and could grow NAPA’s workforce from four to six employees.
The project benefits from a five-year sliding-scale property tax rebate, a standard incentive for urban renewal development. Sioux Center Mayor Dale Vander Berg praised the project, saying to Sioux Center News, “We’re excited about this investment and its potential impact on our community.”
The new NAPA store will replace its former Highway 75 location, which was vacated for the Central Veterinary Clinic’s expansion prior to the fire.
