O'Reilly Automotive Inc. has announced the opening of a new distribution center in Buford, Georgia, marking a significant upgrade in the company's logistics capabilities. The new 700,000-square-foot facility, which began operations on December 13, replaces the company's previous Forest Park location while introducing cutting-edge automation technology.
According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, the heart of the facility's operations is an innovative automated storage and retrieval system that brings parts directly to workers, revolutionizing the traditional warehouse picking process. In moving to the new facility, O’Reilly, now in its 67th year of operation, aims to incorporate the latest in automation technology. The facility combines this modern robotics technology with conventional warehouse equipment that maximizes efficiency and accuracy.
Approximately 250 team members chose to either relocate or commute to continue their careers with O'Reilly. "We're deeply grateful for their continued dedication," said Brent Kirby, president of O'Reilly Auto Parts.
The investment in automation has created new specialized positions, particularly for engineers who maintain the robotic systems and quality assurance personnel who manage daily inventory reconciliation. "Our team members have been excited to work with the automated storage and retrieval system," noted Danny Smith, the Buford facility manager.
This expansion represents the latest addition to O'Reilly's growing distribution network, which now encompasses 31 major facilities across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The company is already planning further growth, with construction underway on new distribution centers in Stafford, Virginia, and Lakeland, Florida.
CEO Brad Beckham emphasized the strategic importance of the new facility in meeting customer needs: "Whether our customers are DIY enthusiasts finishing urgent projects or professional technicians serving their clients, we know quick turnaround is important."
