March 24, 2025
Word's tenure is to end on April 15, 2025, where he oversees the company's Professional, Independents, and Canada sectors. He will continue in a transitional role until May 16.

Advance Auto Parts announced the retirement of Executive Vice President Herman L. Word, Jr. effective April 15, 2025. Word oversees the company's Professional, Independents, and Canada sectors. He will continue in a transitional role until May 16.

The announcement comes amid significant challenges for the auto parts retailer who is set to shutter some 700 stores in 2025.

As reported by Aftermarket Business World on Nov. 20, 2024, Advance Auto Parts, one of the U.S.’s largest aftermarket auto parts retailers, will close more than 700 stores by mid-2025 following disappointing third-quarter earnings. The North Carolina-based company, which operates nearly 4,800 stores across North America, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, has not disclosed which locations will be affected.

The closures will include approximately 500 company-operated stores and 200 independently-owned locations, plus four distribution centers
