The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and the California and Nevada Automotive Wholesalers Association (CAWA) encouraged members to contact California state senators, especially those who are members of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, to urge support for AB 227.
Prop 65 requires that a private business with 10 or more employees post warnings when its knowingly exposing workers OR the public to any of 774 chemicals listed by the state of California. A handful of law firms are targeting businesses with drive-by lawsuits, alleging that businesses lack the signage required by Prop 65.
AB 227, introduced by Assembly Member Mike Gatto, D-Los Angeles, protects small businesses from these drive-by lawsuits by providing a 14 day window to address alleged issues.
