Ryder System, Inc. announced the winner of its 2014 Top Technician (Top Tech) Recognition Program, designed to identify, recognize and reward Ryder’s top performing technicians.

Ryder System, Inc., a leader in commercial fleet and supply chain management solutions, announced the winner of its 2014 Top Technician (Top Tech) Recognition Program, designed to identify, recognize and reward Ryder’s top performing technicians. Eligible participants for the award are selected annually from Ryder’s team of nearly 5,000 U.S. and Canadian-based technicians and are measured on technical training qualifications, outstanding customer service performance and quality workmanship. Seven finalists competed for the top honors at Ryder’s Top Tech Competition in Irving, Tex., after having advanced through three increasingly demanding rounds of challenging written and hands-on tests.

The title of “2014 Top Technician,” along with keys to a new GMC Sierra Denali pick-up truck and a cash prize, was awarded to Frederick Morra. Jeffrey Nesheim was the second-place winner, and David Berdovich finished in third place. The competition consisted of 10 rigorous hands-on skill tests, including vehicle electronics, preventive maintenance and air conditioning. All seven finalists received cash prizes for their exemplary performance.

“Ryder’s technicians are the best in the industry,” said Dennis Cooke, Ryder president of global fleet management solutions. “This event gives them a chance to showcase their expertise and be recognized for their outstanding skills and contributions to Ryder’s business.”

As a result of their success in the company’s internal recognition program, this year’s top seven finalists, including Top Tech winner Frederick Morra, as well as 2013’s Top Tech winner Jonathan Timmons, will represent Team Ryder at the 2014 TMC SuperTech National Technician Skills Competition. Team Ryder will compete against the industry’s best technicians, beginning Sept. 22 in Orlando, Fla.

The following Team Ryder members will join Frederick Morra and Jonathan Timmons in participating in this year’s TMC SuperTech:

  • Christopher Barnett (Crittenden, Ky.)
  • David Berdovich (Valparaiso, Ind.)
  • Robert Gonzalez (Plant City, Fla.)
  • Danny Harrison (Sanford, Fla.)
  • Darek Mowinski (Windsor, Ont.)
  • Jeffrey Nesheim (Carol Stream, Ill.)

“Our techs are a point of differentiation for Ryder in the marketplace,” said Ryder chairman and CEO Robert Sanchez. “From their unrivaled highly technical skills, to their superior workmanship and focus on safety, our technicians are fully equipped to deliver some of the best service in the industry. I’d like to congratulate this year’s Top Techs who are role models and true examples of hard work and dedication.”
