Capt. Alex Stites, director of shore energy for the Navy, will serve as keynote speaker at the 2015 Green Truck Summit in place of Dennis McGinn. McGinn, the Navy’s assistant secretary for energy, installations and environment, will not be able to attend the March 3 event. He has been scheduled to give Congressional testimony that day regarding President Obama’s recently released annual budget.

Held in conjunction with The Work Truck Show 2015, the Green Truck Summit focuses on the latest alternative fuel, advanced technology and regulatory trends. It is held March 3–4 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind. The Work Truck Show trade show floor is open March 4–6.

“The Green Truck Summit is designed to provide real-world answers from leaders in the work truck and energy fields,” says Doyle Sumrall, NTEA managing director. “Since these officials are deeply involved in creating the latest guidelines and regulations for our country, their Washington commitments come first. Fortunately, Captain Stites is available to share his wealth of operational knowledge in place of Dennis McGinn.”

Stites manages the Navy’s fleet of non-tactical vehicles, which includes an array of work trucks, vans and cars. Prior to receiving his current appointment in McGinn’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations and Environment) in April last year, Stites held a variety of roles in the Navy. Starting in 2007, he served as assistant deputy commander for operations, then assistant operations officer and finally operations officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington. Stites’ overseas appointments include assistance production officer at the Public Works Center Guam, facilities management division director for the Commander Naval Forces Marianas Regional Staff, force civil engineer for the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/FIFTH Fleet in Bahrain, and senior program manager for the Afghan National Police Infrastructure Construction Program in Afghanistan.

Stites is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi and a qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and various other personal and unit commendation awards.

The 2015 Green Truck Summit features general and breakout educational sessions offering fuel-neutral and balanced perspectives on alternative fuels and productivity-enhancing technologies. At the event, attendees can learn about the latest work truck trends and hear implementation success stories from their peers. NTEA staff members are onsite to answer technical questions, and attendees can talk to manufacturer representatives during test drives at the Green Truck Ride-and-Drive that is held during show hours on Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5.
