Omnitracs, LLC, a provider of fleet management solutions to transportation and logistics companies, released a new video detailing what fleets need to know about the upcoming Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate, expected to be published in September of 2015. The video is live on www.ELDfacts.com, an important online resource established to help fleets better understand and prepare for this regulation, and dissects each one of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FSMCA) mandate goals to help fleets better understand the ruling’s objectives and how it will impact business operations.

“From technical specifications to what constitutes a compliant device and how such devices work, there are still a lot of questions swirling around in regards to the anticipated ELD mandate. At Omnitracs, we have a long history of working with the FSMCA and a deep understanding of the rulemaking process, which we’ve leveraged for this video in order to help the industry best prepare for what’s ahead,” says Tom Cuthbertson, vice president of regulatory compliance at Omnitracs. “With the FSMCA sharing its top goals for the regulation, we now have a sense of what to anticipate. In just over three short minutes, this video examines each goal to define critical aspects—such as what SNPRM is and what the transmission methods are to send information to authorized officials.”

The visually compelling video, utilizing whiteboard drawings to illustrate key messages, explains the complex regulation in an easily digestible format. Although the final ruling specifications have not yet been disclosed, the FSMCA’s seven top goals—each explained in the video—are:

  1. Security
  2. Transmission to authorized enforcement officials
  3. Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM)
  4. Driver harassment and privacy consideration
  5. Tamper resistance
  6. Technology evolution capability
  7. Self-certification

The video also outlines what to look for in an ELD provider, including important questions to ask potential vendors. Please visit www.ELDfacts.com to watch the full video.
