When diagnosing a drivability issue, techs have to consider that the problem will fall into one of the following categories: breathing, fuel delivery or ignition.
Fuel trim diagnostics can help pinpoint specific problems in breathing such as a clogged catalytic converter, CAM timing or a breathing problem in one, some or all the cylinders. Fuel trim, and where it is out of spec, can pinpoint problems in fuel delivery to the injectors, vacuum leaks and sensor malfunctions. Fuel trims are also affected by ignition system problems such as a weak ignition and misfires.
As part of the 2015 AVI Training Conference - held alongside AAPEX in Las Vegas - this class, sponsored by PTEN and Mitchell 1, ASE Master Technician and instructor Ron Bilyeu will teach attendees to leverage and apply these to improve diagnostic capabilities and make more money.
The class will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 1:30 to 3 PM.
