The Manufacturing Institute has announced they will present Tamara Somerville with the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Ahead Award at an April 21 reception in Washington, D.C. The Step Ahead Awards honor 100 women across the United States who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry.  A STEP Award identifies the best women in the manufacturing industry today.

Tamara Somerville is Posi Lock's Corporate Vice President and President of Global Initiatives and Strategic Alliances. Her multi-faceted approach to the operations of Posi Lock has given her a deep understanding of every department within the company. In 2001, Somerville oversaw the global expansion of Posi Lock, and successfully implemented a distribution network which resulted in a total worldwide reach for the Posi Lock product line. Today, Posi Lock sells their product in almost every country in the world.

"I am honored to receive this recognition," said Somerville. "I believe that manufacturing is a rapidly advancing industry that helps improve all other industries. Not only are we creating new/useful items, but we're generating better/more efficient ways of doing it! By creating better tools and processes, manufacturers are finding new ways to use the world’s resources to benefit every other industry."

Jennifer McNelly, executive director of the Manufacturing Institute, commented on this year's honorees. "These women are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing. We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole".
