Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of dry freight vans, flatbeds, and Tautliner curtain sided trailers is on target to manufacture its 500,000th refrigerated van in 2017.
Since 1994, Utility has been the No. 1 manufacturer of refrigerated vans in the Americas, and the 3000R continues to maintain its industry leadership, according to the company.
“When our Clearfield, Utah plant recently manufactured its 250,000th reefer, we decided to add up the total number of reefers manufactured in our history. The number turned out to be over 490,000 refrigerated vans. With what we have in the pipeline, we will hit half a million reefers sometime this year,” said Craig Bennett, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Utility Trailer Manufacturing.
Utility Trailer currently operates two reefer manufacturing facilities in the United States, dedicated to building the No. 1 selling 3000R refrigerated van, and maintains over 50 percent market share.
“We continue to improve and innovate our reefer design and are proud of its unsurpassed performance in the field,” added Bennett.
In 1965 Utility opened its Clearfield, Utah plant at Freeport Center. This plant closed in 2001 after building nearly 100,000 reefers when a retooled, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was completed nearby. The new Clearfield, Utah plant was designed specifically to build the completely re-engineered Utility 3000R reefer. To meet increased market demand for refrigerated vans, Utility opened their Marion, Virginia plant in 1989. With production at capacity, it too is nearing its next manufacturing milestone. Prior to these two dedicated reefer manufacturing facilities, Utility manufactured its refrigerated van products in its City of Industry, California and El Paso, Texas.
