Fleets surpass 75 million miles driven in XL hybrid electric vehicles

The company estimates that its customers have saved nearly 1.5 million gallons of fuel.

XL, a company that makes connected vehicle electrification solutions for commercial and municipal fleets, announced that its customers have collectively surpassed 75 million total miles driven with vehicles powered by XL’s hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) systems. The company estimates that its customers have saved nearly 1.5 million gallons of fuel, reduced CO2 emissions by 13,000 metric tons and added 11,700 hours of driver productivity into their fleets.

The company tracks these and other relevant fleet metrics via its XL Link telematics program, which provides actionable intelligence on key vehicle data and is included free of charge to customers using its electrification upfits. XL was founded in 2009, and has electrified thousands of class 2-6 fleet vehicles from Ford, GM and Isuzu across a broad range of commercial and municipal applications, including cargo delivery, transportation, utility and municipal service, emergency response and more. XL’s products can increase fleet vehicle MPG by an average of 25 to 50 percent, while decreasing CO2 emissions by 20 to 33 percent, according to the company.

“75 million miles driven is a major accomplishment which sets us apart from other fleet vehicle electrification solutions," said XL CEO and founder Tod Hynes. "We’re very proud of our team and technology as well as the financial and environmental benefits we’ve helped deliver to our customers. Above all, this milestone reflects the great work our customers do every day, as well as their commitment to sustainable fleet operations.”

XL celebrated several other company milestones within the past year, including:

  • A record number of fleet electrification deployments, including 234 hybrid electric vans to Verizon, representing one of the industry’s largest-ever single electrified vehicle deployments to date.
  • Rapid employee growth, doubling the company’s size over the past 12 months with continued plans for expansion.
  • Significant new product introductions, including the industry’s first hybrid electric Ford F-250 and plug-in hybrid electric Ford F-150 pickup trucks, along with a hybrid electric system for the new line of 4.3L engine GM Express and Savana vans.
  • A record 14th California Air Resources Board (CARB) executive order, marking the most CARB certifications for electrified commercial vehicles of any automotive company.
