This bulletin applies to 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 2.4L engine that may exhibit an intermittent no-start and/or instrument cluster 4WD indicator lamp illuminated. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing and repairing/replacing the harness as necessary. Note that the wiTECH software is required to be at the latest release before performing this procedure. Using a scan tool with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no DTCs are set. If DTCs are present, record and address as needed before continuing.
Near the transmission harness retainer clip position, inspect for any contact (1) between the transmission shift cable bracket and the transmission electrical harness. Show here is 1) Contact between wire harness and bracket; 2) Transmission electrical harness; 3) Transmission shift cable bracket. Inspect the transmission electrical harness for any chafing damage at the point of contact between the electrical harness and the shift cable bracket.
If the transmission harness copper wires are exposed or damaged due to chafing, replace the harness. 1) Example of exposed wire due to chafing; 2) Example of harness covering separation with no wire damage.
Relocate the transmission electrical harness (1) from the previous clipping location (3) to the new clipping location (2) on the battery positive cable in order to prevent harness chafing. Clear any DTCs that may have set due to wire chafing.
