Ford patent reveals future 'Pet Mode' system

Feb. 24, 2022
Pet Mode will offer a variety of features ranging from adjusting the vehicle's temperature to lowering the windows and even playing music for your pet.

A recently published patent from Ford shows they are working on a 'Pet Mode' system similar to Tesla's 'Dog Mode'. Tesla's system allows vehicle owners to select a comfortable cabin temperature that remains on even while the owner is away from the vehicle. This ensures the pet's safety and comfort, as well as offers the owner peace of mind when they have to step away.

Ford's patent proposes a few more features to keep our furry friends safe and happy. Once Pet Mode is engaged, using either the key fob or an app on your phone, users have the ability to lower one or more windows, open the sunroof, or tilt/fold down the seats. Being able to manipulate the interior of the vehicle allows owners the option to open or close off certain spaces in the vehicle as well as create a flat surface for their pet to lay on.

Additionally, the patent notes this mode will have the capacity to adjust the climate control, play music, arm or disarm the vehicle's alarm, and lock or unlock the doors. And if your pet has figured out how to open your vehicle's doors, you'll be able to adjust the position of door handles to prevent them from getting out.
