NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson delivered an inspiring message to AAPEX 2023 attendees, drawing from his basketball career and business ventures in urban communities. Johnson emphasized his early focus on winning, recounting how he transformed a losing high school basketball team into winners through hard work and practice. He also discussed his NBA rivalry with Larry Bird, highlighting the value of competition in improving oneself.
“All of us here have competitors. They make you better and guess what, you make them better,” Johnson said.
After his successful 12-year NBA career, Johnson transitioned into the business world with the guidance of mentors. He stressed the importance of understanding and overdelivering to your customer base, which turns them into brand ambassadors. As well as encouraged reinvention in the face of change.
Johnson also shared insights on maintaining a winning mindset during challenging situations, advising to quickly move on, learn from mistakes, and hire the best talent. The keynote address took place on October 31 and was preceded by a presentation on the automotive aftermarket and the critical issue of Right to Repair, essential for the industry's prosperous future.
