Hunter Engineering has announced the passing of one of their longtime employees, Dave Smith, 75. Smith worked for Hunter for almost 40 years up until his retirement in 2024.
In 1975, Smith joined the company as a business representative for Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina, and was then promoted to Cleveland regional manager in 1980. Later, in 2008, after some time in Hunter's corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Smith became senior vice president.
According to Hunter Engineering sources, Smith was lnown for his love of golf and sense of humor. He helped lead Hunter through a period of growth, increasing the company's sales and service organization from 200 representatives to more than 630.
"Dave took over Hunter's sale organization at a difficult time in the company's history," said Hunter Chairman Stephen Brauer, at the time of Smith's retirement. "His enthusiasm and dedication for the next 24 years led to the creation of the industry's greatest equipment sales and service force and unprecedented success with all of Hunter's major customers. Dave's contribution to Hunter's growth is immeasurable."
Smith is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Kim, and grandsons Lucas, Benjamin, and Blake.
