Michelin announced a new global partnership with Brembo. The collaboration brings together Michelin's experience with tire modeling and algorithm development and Brembo's experience with braking systems, vehicle modeling, and artificial intelligence.
Specifically, the partnership will have Michelin provide real-time data using its connected solutions software, including SmartWear, SmartLoad, and SmartGrip, to Brembo's SENSIFY braking system to further refine the system. Brembo's system uses a combination of artificial intelligence, algorithms, and sensors to control each wheel independently.
According to the companies, the initial tests were a success. After integrating Michelin's tire models and algorithms with Brembo's intelligent braking models in a virtual environment, live tests were done at Michelin's Research Center in Ladoux, France, to confirm the results of the virtual testing. The tests revealed braking distance reductions that reached up to 4m during ABS events with the same tires in various conditions. The system also showed a quicker response time, minimized traction loss, improved lateral stability, and didn't exhibit any wheel locking.
