Due to a malfunction in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Tesla is set to recall nearly 700,000 vehicles in the U.S. This malfunction could fail to alert drivers to low tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the recall affects specific models, including the 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles.
The NHTSA said the issue involves TPMS warning light, which may fail to stay illuminated between drive cycles, preventing drivers from receiving a timely warning if their tire pressure is low.
The latest recall highlights Tesla's ongoing challenges in ensuring vehicle safety. In July of this year, the company recalled over 1.8 million vehicles due to a hood issue. In February, nearly 2.2 million Teslas were recalled because of dashboard warning lights appearing too small to be seen by drivers.
As for this current recall, Tesla said the issue would be addressed with their standard over-the-air software update. Owner notification letters will be mailed starting February 15, 2025.
