Pico Technology has launched its latest update to PicoScope 7 Automotive. The update brings new features designed to make oscilloscope diagnostics faster, easier, and more effective for technicians. This release aims to simplify setup with the Setup wizard, expand guided tests to cover more vehicle systems, enhance demo mode for hands-on learning, and introduce new tracking rulers for real-time waveform analysis.
A deeper look at new features:
Setup wizard: This feature automatically applies the best settings for over 150 predefined measurements, removing the guesswork from configuring timebases, sample intervals, ranges, and coupling.
Expanded guided tests: Nine new tests added to cover EVs, serial communications, emissions control, and heavy duty systems. These tests provide step-by-step guidance, connection instructions, waveform examples, and in-depth analysis. Additions include motor winding current phasing, Bosch LSU broadband oxygen sensors, 10BASE-T1S, FlexRay, and dual 12V battery systems.
Demo mode: Offers risk-free way to explore PicoScope 7 Automotive without the physical hardware. Allows technicians to practice setting up waveforms, adjusting triggers, and testing serial decoding tools.
Math channels and measurements tool: Allows techs to visualize key waveform characteristics over time rather than relying on static values. New functions include cycle time, pulse width, rise and fall times, rising and falling rates, and true RMS (DC coupled). Spot inconsistencies, intermittent faults, and performance drift, to help reduce misdiagnoses and unnecessary part replacements.
Tracking rulers: Provide instant, real-time waveform values at specific points of interest, eliminating the need to review captured data afterwards. Available in both Scope and Spectrum modes, these rulers aim to improve efficiency by letting techs see critical waveform details at a glance. Retain the last position when re-enabled and increase in precision when zoomed in.
Advanced filtering tools: Allow techs to isolate and analyze only the most relevant serial data packets, streamlining complex ECU diagnostics and communications analysis.
Extended time bases: Two new extended time bases allow for test durations of up to 56 hours. This ensures PicoScope remains the ideal tool for monitoring vehicle power consumption over long periods, helping technicians identify intermittent battery drain issues that could leave a vehicle inoperable.
