Pro-Cut International brake lathes offer increased profitability and lower customer costs

May 13, 2025
The company restored over 75 percent of the rotors discarded by a typical 5-bay shop.

Pro-Cut International offers repair facilities the opportunity to increase their profitability while reducing customer costs and adapting to market shifts with its lines of brake lathes. With most rotors being imported into the United States and predicted rising costs, disposing of rotors without any effort to save or service them is preventing shops from saving themselves and their customers from a better outcome.

The Pro-Cut team visited a five-bay shop in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and saved over three-quarters of the discarded rotors recovered from the shop's dumpster. Rather than immediate replacement, repairing and resurfacing rotors can improve customer loyalty with lower costs and improve shop profitability with expanded service. The Pro-Cut X15 and X19 are on-car brake lathes that can handle most typical rotors, and the X1 on-truck brake lathe can service the heavy duty rotors commonly found on trucks and buses.

What people are saying

Jeff Hastings, president of Pro-Cut, said, “The vast majority of brake rotors are imported into the United States, and financial forecasts indicate that the cost of rotors could increase significantly in the coming months. By disposing of rotors that could be saved and serviced, repair facilities are throwing away money. Those shops that repair, not replace rotors at the first sign of wear, can lower their customers’ costs, extend brake life, and add more profitability to their business. Making an investment in a Pro-Cut brake lathe, a shop can more than cover the margin lost from not selling new rotors by charging a nominal machining fee. Plus, lower brake service quotes to customers will greatly improve close rates and customer retention.”
