AVTECC announces partnership with C-BEN

June 12, 2025
The two organizations will launch pilot implementations of competency-based educational programs.

The International Advanced Vehicle Technology Education and Credentialing Coalition (AVTECC) announced its partnership with the Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) to further automotive education by combining C-BEN's leadership in competency-based education (CBE) and AVTECC's experience with automotive education and credentialing.

The collaboration aims to find a solution for CBE program development and implementation in educational institutions and workforce training centers. AVTECC will provide program-level frameworks that are tailored to the everchanging state of the industry, while C-BEN will spearhead the tools, frameworks, and support for designing and scaling these programs. With automation and electrification dominating conversations about the industry, the partnership will ensure that students and future professionals have a clear pathway for building and certifying demonstrable skills.

The partnership will see pilot implementations at select institutions with a long-term goal of deploying the model nationwide as the new standard for competency-based education.

Charla Long, president of C-BEN, said, “In a time of rapid technological change and workforce disruption, the need for agile, skills-focused education has never been greater. Our collaboration with AVTECC ensures that competency-based education in the automotive field is aligned with both the learning needs of students and the performance expectations of industry.”

AVTECC President and CEO David Macholz said, “AVTECC’s mission has always been to bridge the gap between education and employment. Partnering with C-BEN allows us to deliver more robust, scalable, and learner-centered programs that not only educate but truly certify readiness for the complex technologies shaping the automotive world.”
