Manufactured Again education and awareness campaign seeks to increase public understanding of environmental, economic and product performance benefits of remanufactured parts.

The Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) continues to advance development of certification criteria for the remanufacturing industry.

The criteria will be used in conjunction with the Manufactured Again education and awareness campaign, which seeks to increase public understanding of the environmental, economic and product performance benefits of remanufactured parts.

"We are very pleased with the progress made by the MERA member work group and sincerely appreciate the significant commitment of time made by those that volunteered for the session," said John Chalifoux, president and COO, MERA. "It is encouraging to see leading companies in the remanufacturing industry—large and small, independent and OE—working to advance the Manufactured Again program."

TransAxle CEO and MERA Sales & Marketing Council Co-Chairman Dave Olsen and Undercar Express Managing Director Paul Schuck (a member of the MERA Board of Directors) led the work group session. The following work group members also offered their substantial remanufacturing expertise in electronics, hard parts and quality management:

  • Dan Reid, AIAG
  • Bill Schubert, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems
  • Ralph Rulli, Flight Systems Electronics Group
  • Jim Morrow, TriSar (former president, Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing)

In addition, James S. Bruin, manager, warranty, Mopar SQ, 3CPR, TS 16949, Chrysler Group shared lessons learned related on process-certification with members of the work group and the MERA Sales & Marketing Council meeting on June 14.

Specifically, Bruin offered advice based on his work with three other vehicle manufacturers and 15 suppliers to release of CQI-14 "Consumer-Centric Warranty Management: A Guideline for Industry Best Practices." (The guideline was a joint publication of the Automotive Industry Action Group and the Original Equipment Suppliers Association.)

MERA will continue to work with leading experts from every segment of the remanufacturing industry to develop the Manufactured Again program and expects to announce further details during an information session scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Exposition (AAPEX).
