Bridgestone celebrated the 40th anniversary of the opening of its Bandag Retread Plant in Griffin, Ga. The plant, which originally opened as a Bandag facility, began production in November 1976. Today, the Griffin plant employs more than 170 people who manufactured more than 59.6 million pounds of tread for tire retread in 2015.
“Bridgestone’s roots in Griffin run deep, and it has been our privilege to call this community home for the last 40 years,” said Christy Brasher, Griffin Plant Manager. “We’d like to thank the Griffin community for its support over the past 40 years, and we’re excited to begin this next chapter in our plant’s history.”

For more than 50 years, Bandag retreads have built a reputation based on a commitment to quality and innovation with a focus on improving tire performance and your bottom line. As a member of the Bridgestone family, Bandag offers innovative retread solutions that help customers maximize uptime, improve efficiency and deliver best-in-class performance to meet the emerging needs of owner-operators, large fleets, original equipment manufacturers and everyone in between.
Tires are one of the top expenses for many fleets. Bridgestone tires can be retreaded multiple times with Bandag retreads, delivering longer wear life, lower rolling resistance and improved durability allowing fleet customers to maximize their investment and lower their total cost of ownership. More than just cost effective, Bandag retreads help fleets operate more sustainably by saving tires from landfills. More than 800 tires per hour are retreaded with Bandag retreads, each of which is carefully inspected for quality and consistency, and backed by more than 1,700 Bandag dealers across North America.
