Legacy expands its Iowa facility

Aug. 29, 2017
The expansion of the company that makes Flexzilla water and air hoses is expected to create 13 new jobs over the next three years.

Legacy Manufacturing Company, the maker of Flexzilla water and air hoses, will be expanding its recently completed facility. In 2016, Legacy completed its 133,000-square-foot facility located at 6509 Partners Avenue in Marion, Iowa. The new warehouse expansion will add 200,000 square feet to the company's existing facility with a capital investment of $11 million.

This expansion adds support for Legacy’s reshoring efforts of its many proprietary products,  including the Flexzilla air hose. Other branded products, like new Flexzilla water hoses with patent pending SwivelGrip technology, have attained market acceptance in the lawn, garden and outdoor power categories. This popularity has lead to robust growth for the company.

R. Mark Weems, president of Legacy, says, “Legacy is committed to the continued development of superior products designed and produced in Eastern Iowa. Our products must exceed the expectations of our customers because when you lead the industry with great quality products like Flexzilla, customers learn to trust your brand and become very loyal.”

“This expansion is not just good for Marion, it’s good for Iowa,” says Nick Glew, president of Marion Economic Development Corporation. “Reshoring manufacturing processes and jobs is a complex endeavor. We are pleased to see this project that benefits multiple Iowa communities and supports Legacy’s aggressive growth strategy that will continue to build Flexzilla products into a dominant nationwide brand.”

Construction will begin immediately. Legacy currently has 58 employees in Marion, and the expansion is expected to create 13 new jobs over the next three years. Local and state support was vital to making this expansion possible. The Marion Economic Development Corporation (MEDCO) partnered with the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance in preparing an application to the State of Iowa’s High Quality Jobs Program. The City of Marion coupled with the Iowa Economic Development Authority approved incentives last week totaling $1,100,000.

Legacy, an international company, is a division of Weems Industries. Legacy has been serving various markets since 1986, offering a wide range of professional-grade service and maintenance equipment for automotive, industrial, contractor, agricultural and marine markets throughout North America.
