Shell Rotella SuperRigs three-day event begins June 14

The SuperRigs competition is a truck "beauty contest" for actively working trucks.

The 36th annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs truck contest will roll into White’s Travel Center in Raphine, Va. June 14-16, 2018 with this year’s theme of “Tribute to Toughness.” Entry to the three-day event is free and designed to be fun for truckers and their families, as well as spectators from surrounding communities. White’s is situated just off Interstates 81 and 64 in the Shenandoah Valley.

“Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs contestants and attendees will have the opportunity to experience some of the most spectacular looking working trucks on the road,” said Megan Pino, Global Brand Manager, Shell ROTELLA. “The trucks are a testament to the drivers that put in the hard work to make them a source of pride for the trucking industry.”

The Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs competition is the premier truck "beauty contest" for actively working trucks. Hard working owner/operator truckers from across the United States and Canada compete annually for more than $25,000 in cash and prizes. Twelve drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2019 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs Highlights

  • Starship Initiative Truck: Fresh from its cross-country drive, this hyper-fuel-efficient Class 8, next generation concept truck designed with the goal of reducing the energy usage associated with the transportation of goods. Using technologies that are currently available today and furthering the conversations around the importance of reducing CO2 and the global energy challenge, the Starship Initiative is a demonstration of what’s possible in reducing energy demand in freight transportation.
  • NHRA Star Matt Hagan: Join us Thursday, June 14, 2018, as Virginia native, Matt Hagan, a two-time NHRA Funny Car World Champion, unveils his latest Funny Car followed by a meet and greet. Matt will also be competing in the ROTELLA-branded funny car at Bristol Motor Speedway this same weekend.
  • Firework Display: Thursday, June 14, 2018, will also feature a live concert featuring Jayne Denham, the SuperRigs’ light competition, and an exciting fireworks display!
  • Truck Parade: The SuperRigs truck parade will take the participants from White’s Travel Center to historic downtown Lexington on Friday, June 15, 2018. Truckers will stage their rigs, turn on their lights and pump up the music; creating an epic street party for truckers and residents alike. In addition, there will be a live concert by trucker/musician Tony Justice.

White’s Travel Center offers a variety of on-site amenities including a chrome shop, complete pharmacy, clean showers, numerous restaurants and shopping, as well as a small movie theatre, laundry services, and a shuttle. A Blue Beacon Truck Wash and CAT scales are also available on-site. In conjunction with the St. Christopher Trucker Relief Fund, the Medicine Shoppe will conduct complimentary health checks throughout the three days of SuperRigs while staff is in attendance.

Trucks entered in the Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs truck competition will be judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. In total, 24 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic.

Judging will take place between 7:30 a.m. EST and 6 p.m. EST on Thursday and Friday, June 14, 2018 and June15, 2018 and between 7:30 a.m. EST and 10 a.m. EST on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Judging takes about 20 minutes and contestants do not need to be present to win.
