CMMI Institute renews Noregon’s Level 3 status

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a framework for process-improvement developed to bring structured best practices for process-improvement to organizations.

Noregon recently completed an appraisal to renew their status as a CMMI for Development Level 3 organization. Noregon has appraised at a Maturity Level 3 since 2009. Noregon is one of approximately 1,300 companies in the United States appraised at any CMMI level.

CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is a framework for process-improvement developed by Software Engineering Institute (SEI). It brings a structured and systematic collection of best practices for process-improvement to organizations. As a product development company in the technology field, Noregon has developed processes based on the CMMI Development framework, which covers project management, process management, systems engineering, hardware engineering, software engineering and other critical processes used to develop quality products.

As a Maturity Level 3 organization, Noregon’s development team follows repeatable processes throughout the entire development lifecycle to deliver product. Noregon commonly provides custom software development services to some of the largest companies in the industry. In these situations, a Maturity Level 3 appraisal is critical for assuring prospective customers of Noregon’s quality and on-time delivery of their desired product.

“Noregon is a process driven company,” said Dave Covington, Noregon’s Chief Technology Officer. “As a result of our strong processes, we have a great reputation for delivering the highest quality products to all of our customers. We apply those same processes to our own products, including JPRO and TripVision, to ensure users are receiving the timely updates that we promise throughout the year. Having a process-oriented culture is a key enabler to our ongoing success. Process is a focal point that Bill Hathaway, Noregon’s CEO, has embraced since the company’s inception and is an innate part of everything we do.”

An additional benefit of a Maturity Level 3 appraisal is Noregon’s eligibility to bid on military contracts.

“Our United States Military simply cannot accept a subpar product, which is why they typically require third-party development vendors to be a CMMI Level 3 organization," Covington said. "They know we properly manage the risks involved in software development and build products that exceed their quality standards."

Appraisals and renewals are required every three years to ensure organizations continue to meet the defined standards. Noregon noted they plan to undergo an appraisal in 2021 to maintain their Maturity Level 3 status.
