Hankook Tire selected for Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index for two consecutive years
Hankook Tire has been selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) for two years in a row. Identified through a corporate sustainability assessment, Hankook Tire has once again been recognized as a sustainability leader in the Asia-Pacific region.
Assessed based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria, Hankook Tire has been included in the DJSI Asia Pacific as a sustainability leader, represented as one of the top 148 companies of the approximately 600 largest corporations in the Asia Pacific region. In particular, Hankook Tire obtained high scores in core components of corporate sustainability such as climate change strategy, talent attraction & retention, ethics management and environmental management.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Hankook Tire has been promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities via various internal and external programs. The company undertakes philanthropic initiatives through Hankook Tire Welfare Foundation, established to take on company-wide social contribution efforts including academic scholarship programs, support for charity hospitals in Korea as well as volunteering works for local communities. Also, internally, Hankook Tire took a multi-faceted approach to reinforce internal employee ethics – such as a re-alignment of employee code of ethics, conducting internal ethics education as well as fair-trade campaigns.
Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire said, “Hankook Tire’s inclusion in the DJSI Asia Pacific once again confirmed our lofty status in Asia in sustainable management terms.” He further added, “Based on our full commitment to and achievement in creating environmental and social values as well as economic outcomes, we will further deepen our stakeholder engagement and fulfilment of corporate social responsibility in accordance with our integrated CSR management system.”
Hankook Tire has been named to the DJSI Korea since 2011 and was included in the DJSI Asia Pacific in 2013 – a first for the Korean tire industry.
The DJSI is the first global index to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide, a joint product of S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM. Launched in 1999, the DJSI is composed of sustainability leaders in each industry group as identified through corporate sustainability assessment. The underlying research methodology accounts for general as well as industry-specific sustainability trends and evaluates corporations based on a variety of criteria including climate change strategies, human resources development, stakeholder and corporate governance.
