Electrical Problems Can Be A "Drag"

Jan. 1, 2020

In our November issue, two of our contributors point out that it is easy to misdiagnose a customer concern as a component failure when the real problem lies in the integrity of the electrical circuit feeding that component. You can read both stories by logging on to the November digital issue of Motor Age HERE.

Most of these issues are in the connections themselves. Improper probing of connector terminals, improper removal of terminals and corrosion seem to be at the top of the hit parade when it comes to the causes of intermittent electrical problems. And that was the basis of our November ASE Question of the Month, sponsored by Federated Auto Parts!

Here's the question in case you missed it...

Technician A says that proper terminal fit is a critical factor in an automotive electrical circuit and can be checked using a “drag” test. Technician B says that a Digital Storage Oscilloscope can be used to locate circuit dropouts caused by damaged connectors. Who is correct?

A.  Technician A

B.  Technician B

C.  Both A and B

D.  Neither A nor B

The correct answer "C"!

But you didn't have to get the answer correct to participate in the drawing our sponsor offers everyone who tries the question! You do know that you can choose to enter our random prize drawing, right? The winner receives a collectible diecast from Federated - perfect for display at home or at the shop!

This month's winner is Ted Tsuda of Pleasonton, California. Want to be our next winner? Then take the December test HERE and be sure to enter your name when you've entered your answer!
