Car Care Council, CAWA to host free vehicle check event in Sacramento
A free consumer vehicle check-up event will be held in Sacramento on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the AutoZone parking lot at 6071 Florin Road at the corner of Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road.
Hosted by the non-profit Car Care Council in conjunction with CAWA – Representing the Automotive Parts Industry, the event will feature free vehicle inspections conducted by volunteer technicians who will check such items as hoses, belts, battery, wiper blades, lights, tire pressure, engine oil and fluids. All attendees will receive a gift bag and a copy of the 80-page Car Care Guide.
”These extremely popular vehicle check-up events are purely educational, providing an opportunity for consumers to receive an unbiased assessment of their vehicle by a professional automotive service technician in a non-selling environment,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council.
Representatives of the newly introduced “Cash in the Can” campaign will be on hand to teach automotive do-it-yourselfers how to recharge their vehicle’s air conditioning system and remind them to return the empty used refrigerant containers for a $10 refund where they purchased the product.
The “Cash in the Can” campaign was introduced to address the fact that each year thousands of vehicle owners and operators in California elect to recharge their vehicle’s air conditioner themselves with small containers of r134a refrigerant. Due to concerns that these containers typically are not completely emptied during the recharging process and that unused refrigerant could be vented to the atmosphere or the used cans could be thrown away rather than properly recycled, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) established a regulation to reduce emissions.
The regulation calls for a deposit and recycling program where auto parts stores and other retail businesses collect a $10 deposit from the consumer at the time of the sale and then return the deposit to the consumer upon receipt of the used container.
