Northwood University announces retirement of long-standing senior leaders
Northwood University announces the retirements of both Dr. Timothy Nash and Karl Stephan effective June 30, 2020 and July 31, 2020, respectively.
Dr. Timothy Nash, Senior Vice President, Strategic and Corporate Alliances and the Director of the McNair Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
Dr. Nash spent the majority of his adult life with Northwood University, starting as a student athlete and then continuing his career in a variety of roles, including professor, dean, provost, vice president of graduate programs, and most recently, Senior Vice President, Strategic and Corporate Alliances and the Director of the McNair Center.
While Dr. Nash is retiring from his role as Senior Vice President for Strategic and Corporate Alliances, he is excited to remain with the university and dedicate his time and efforts to growing the scope and influence of the McNair Center for the Advancement of Free-Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. In this role, he will continue his writing and research activity, related to championing freedom and free enterprise and the vital role entrepreneurs play in the growth of the U.S. and global economy, and especially in industries ranging from automobiles and trucking to finance and professional sports. Nash will continue to provide steady leadership to this important part of Northwood University directing its efforts, while managing key relationships with associations and chambers of commerce as well as key foundations.
“Tim’s legacy is well entrenched and he’s impacted thousands of students during the more than four decades of walking the halls of Northwood’s campus,” said Kent MacDonald, President, Northwood University. “He will be dearly missed in his role as Senior Vice President; however, we’re so pleased for the opportunity to continue to work with him at the McNair Center.”
Karl Stephan, Vice President Finance and Administration
For more than a decade, Northwood has benefitted from Stephan’s steady hand guiding the university’s large and complex finance and administration area. Over these many years, he calmly and confidently navigated countless challenges ranging from the sale of properties and addressing complex finance matters, to leading many of Northwood’s administrative areas. Beyond exceptional operational leadership, he also served the Board of Trustees as Secretary and Treasurer, ensuring all governance, legal and compliance issues were addressed effectively and efficiently.
“Although this has been a year of challenge and change, Karl prepared a balanced 2020-21 budget that received unanimous approval by the Board of Trustees earlier this month,” stated MacDonald. “I will miss his wise insights and counsel, but wish him health and happiness as he spends more time with his family in Ann Arbor.”
