The Automotive Maintenance Repair Association (AMRA) held its 2022 Annual Member's Meeting on Oct. 31 in Las Vegas.
The meeting marked the association's 30th anniversary and was sponsored by Pep Boys, DRiV, ALLDATA, and 1-800-Radiator & A/C.
AMRA President Jeff Cox and AMRA Chairman Jeff Campbell recapped the year's highlights, recognized members celebrating significant years of service, and shared their goals for the future. One of which included ways to improving exposure of its Motorist Assurance Program (MAP), a program dedicated to equipping the automotive maintenance and repair industry with standards to build trusted relationships with the motorist.
"We have been around 30 years but I feel like we're just getting started," Cox noted.
Nathan Shipley, executive director at The NPD Group, then took the stage to review trends and opportunities happening in the automotive aftermarket.
Key findings:
- 16 percent of consumers stated they have or plan to cut back spending on automotive products.
- Mobility trends: Gasoline demand is down 6.6 percent compared to 2019 for the first 31 weeks of 2022; flat to 2021. Air travel is up 40 percent from 2021 but down 13 percent from 2019.
- 31.5 percent of consumers said they are bringing their car in less frequently for service or repair during the pandemic than before the pandemic.
- Current EV population is about 1.8 million cars of 0.63 percent of the 284 million vehicle population; hybrids add an additional 2.4 percent or 6.8 million.
- 11 percent of new vehicle registrations during the first half of 2022 were electric or hybrid; doubled from two years ago.
- Used cars pricing is coming down.
- Age of cars on the road continues to trend upwards.
AMRA's next MAP Technical Conference will take place January 17-18, 2023 in Tampa, Fla.
