Philips marks 100-year anniversary with Vision LEDs, new website and commercial lighting program

Nov. 4, 2014
To help mark its 100-year anniversary Philips launched a new, dedicated website to support its latest automotive lighting innovation, Philips Vision LEDs.

Philips Automotive North America, a division of Royal Philips, is celebrating its 100-year anniversary at AAPEX by launching a special theme, “Lighting up passion – since 1914.”

To help mark the anniversary Philips launched a new, dedicated website to support its latest automotive lighting innovation, Philips Vision LEDs. The new website is at www.philips.com/visionled.

The new website features ‘responsive’ design for easy viewing on desktop or mobile devices and includes a year/make/model application guide and a where-to-buy retailer locator. The website also explains the Philips Vision LED guarantee and unprecedented 12-year limited warranty. A warranty registration form is available for consumers to download and register their Vision LED purchase.

The Philips Vision LEDs advanced design helps make them highly resistant to extreme heat and vibration, according to Philips Senior Marketing Manager, Ann-Marie Hines. “Vision LEDs are so durable, they’ll likely outlast your car,” she said. “We’re so confident in their performance, we back them with our 12-year limited warranty.”

While some aftermarket LEDs appear to be bright, they often do not produce a well-focused beam of light. As a result, their light output is poor and even potentially dangerous - definitely not street legal, the company said. Philips Vision LEDs are bright and create a well-focused light beam on the road. It is that well-focused beam that makes Vision LED legal for exterior applications, Hines said.

Unlike standard incandescent bulbs, Philips Vision LEDs turn on instantly. That means, when the brake is applied, the vehicle behind can react sooner. The instant-on response provided by Vision LEDs can reduce braking distance by up to 20 feet at a speed of 75 mph, the company said.

Philips Vision LEDs are designed as a direct replacement for incandescent bulbs. They employ LED technology to create lighting that is brilliant and durable. Philips said it is first to market with proven, street legal exterior LEDs as a direct replacement for exterior incandescent bulbs. Philips Vision LEDs are available to replace brake and taillights, back up, dome and glove compartment lights, side markers, trunk, and license plate lights.

Philips is credited with key automotive lighting innovations, such as Xenon HID lighting and halogen bulbs, as well as many style and performance upgrades for headlight bulbs. Today, one in every three cars worldwide uses a Philips light source.

Philips also announced that its lighting program for WDs offers a one-stop source for both commercial and retail packaged lighting products as well as point of sale tools to help service locations and retailers capture more sales for lighting products.

The Philips Commercial Lighting portfolio includes a complete offering of standard OE replacement lighting including a full range of headlight bulbs, halogen and incandescent sealed beam headlamps, and miniature bulbs for both interior and exterior vehicle applications. In addition, the program gives installers access to the highly profitable line of Philips upgrade headlighting, along with sales tools designed to help up-sell consumers to better lighting performance.

Philips backs up the lighting portfolio with point of sale tools that include commercial cabinets and headlight upgrade cabinets that installers can use to stock and sell standard replacement and upgrade lighting to their DIFM customers. The commercial program also includes a countertop headlighting display that retailers and service locations can customize with their own mix of upgrade headlight bulbs.
