Schaeffler releases first repair kit for electric motor

Sept. 9, 2024
The kit contains all the parts needed to replace bearings with the sealant included.

Schaeffler Vehicle Lifetime Solutions is the only supplier on the market to present a motor repair kit at Automechanika Frankfurt for the e-axle in the first generation Hyundai Ioniq AE-EV, 2016-2019 model, EM09 motor with 88 kW output. With the launch of the E-Axle RepSystem-M, it is now possible to replace damaged bearings in the e-axle motor, instead of having to replace the entire motor or e-axle, as was previously the case. The repair, which is only slightly more time-intensive than a full axle replacement, represents a euro cost saving for car owners in the four-digit range.

According to Schaeffler, well over half of all electric motor defects in the electric drivetrain are attributable to defective bearings, which cause audible and palpable oscillations and lead to noise, vibrations, and harsh motor performance (NVH).

Schaeffler also supplies a rotary shaft seal, O-rings for the rotor shafts, flat seals, and sealing paste for the housing, in addition to the actual rotor bearings. A detailed, yet easy-to-understand, step-by-step repair manual is also available, including the tightening torques required for safe installation. Further support in terms of training sessions and webinars is currently in preparation.
