ALLDATA, an AutoZone company, marked its 11th year at the annual SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) exhibition with the launch of ALLDATA Diagnostics. This next-generation technology turns a tablet (Android, Windows 10 or iOS) into a professional scan tool. According to the company, it's the only scan tool solution with ALLDATA Repair or ALLDATA Collision built in, which means that codes link directly to relevant OEM-direct articles, as well as ALLDATA's interactive color wiring diagrams.
Instead of housing scan tool software in a bulky, hand-held unit, ALLDATA Diagnostics has a Vehicle Connection Interface (VCI) device that attaches to the vehicle's OBD-II port. It links wirelessly via Bluetooth and Android, Windows 10 or iOS tablet, giving techs the flexibility to perform scan tool functions directly on the tablet from whatever location in or around the vehicle best suits their needs.
The VCI device is included in the ALLDATA Diagnostics subscription price. The system works with Android, Windows 10 or iOS tablets and requires a subscription to ALLDATA Repair or ALLDATA Collision. There's no charge for software or data updates; they're included in the subscription price. ALLDATA Diagnostics was available for pre-sale at SEMA.
"We're thrilled to bring this game-changing scan tool solution to our customers," said Mitch Major, Vice President, Commercial Support, AutoZone and President, ALLDATA. "In addition to the convenience of fully-integrated access to ALLDATA Repair or Collision, shops can repurpose their own computer or tablet and turn it into a scan tool."
ALLDATA Diagnostics delivers all the functionality technicians expect in a professional-level scan tool, according to the company, with coverage for domestic, Asian and European vehicles. They can retrieve and clear manufacturer P, B, C and U codes. The scan tool also reads and displays PIDs, providing live sensor data from all modules/vehicle systems and offers bi-directional component control.
In addition, ALLDATA Diagnostics offers full-system pre- and post-DTC scan reporting. This is designed to allow shops to create detailed estimates and repair cars back to OEM standards, and to allow collision shops to perform pre- and post-scans with PDF exports to ensure vehicles are repaired back to pre-accident OEM condition.
