I’ve always seen September as a month to make a fresh start. Summer is fading into fall, students are heading back to school, and those Friday night lights are flickering back to life. Whether you’re cracking open some textbooks to start off another academic year or just moving into a new season in your 9-to-5, this time of the year offers an excellent opportunity to realign yourself with your goals for 2023.
We discussed the idea of checking in with your goals back in my June Editor’s Note by using a SWOT analysis to help organize yourself. While another full strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat overview isn’t absolutely necessary (though, you could if you want!), now is a good time to check back in with any observations you made and hit that reset button with any goals you’ve set.
One goal you may have set for yourself or for your shop is to update your tools and equipment. In this month's Tool Briefing article, Ross Colket talks about the need for specialty tools and how without them not only does it make performing certain jobs more difficult and more time-consuming, it can also make a job more dangerous for a technician to perform. As any tech knows, having the proper tooling is crucial to working in this industry.
