Q: What makes this product innovative?

A: What makes this product innovative is honestly a combination of several different things. I don't think any specific feature alone is something that you can't find anywhere else on the market, but there are a couple of things that merged together to make it so awesome.

One thing is the fact that it is a 4mm diameter scope. That means that it's pretty thin. It's able to get into certain places in diesel engines, for example, that a 6mm can not. One thing that's really cool as well is that it's compatible with iPhone, iPad, and Android. A lot of the borescopes on the market are actually not directly compatible with iPhones and iPads like that. It's really neat because you can just throw your phone right up on the removable mount that's included with it. It actually takes the barrier to entry down for borescopes a little bit, which I think is extremely helpful for startup technicians. Instead of having to pay a bunch of money for a more expensive monitor, you're able to just use the device you have in your pocket.

The biggest feature is the joystick articulation, which is super nice because most borescopes will only articulate one or two ways. You can get really specific angles with the joystick control, which is something technicians absolutely love.

Q: What was the inspiration behind creating this product?

A: I don't think there's like one thing where we were just like, "Oh my goodness, I had this crazy idea that absolutely changed the world." The inspiration behind it is that we've been working on borescopes as a company pretty much since our inception and just improving them year after year. So, I think we saw with the evolving technology, we were like, "Oh, now we're able to do compatibility with phones." Our joystick ones are very popular and we just had a bunch of pieces of the puzzle that we thought worked together very well. We thought they'd come together to create a really good inspection tool, which they clearly have.

Q: How will this product improve the lives of technicians and shop owners?

A: The general concept of a borescope I think is really awesome because you're able to take a camera and put it in an engine or any other place you have to inspect without having to tear down a whole vehicle. That really revolutionizes life for shop owners because that is labor hours that they'd have to be putting in. It might be a complete waste. Being able to just get right inside somewhere and see problems without having to do a full tear-down is really just revolutionary for shop owners.

Q: What has the feedback from technicians been like so far?

A: The feedback has honestly been super awesome. I think that everyone who has one really enjoys it, to be honest with you. The only complaints we ever really get is when people are way too aggressive with them. Besides that, people kind of just tell us, "Wow, you're a lifesaver. You helped us find problems that we never would have known about." I think everyone's pretty happy with it. A big thing we've heard as well is that the camera quality on this is a lot better than one you may get on Amazon, just like a generic cheaper one. A quality product at an affordable price is what we hear pretty often. Everybody loves that.

Q: Is there anything else about the CX-4010i our readers should know?

A: You can choose to use a borescope or you can choose not to use a borescope. It's one of those things where it's going to be a preventative measure. I highly recommend if you're a shop owner, you have one of these around because there are so many stories we've heard about, I know there was one gentleman in the aviation industry who was about to buy a plane and he used his borescope to inspect inside the plane. He found issues that would have basically lost all of his money immediately and could have put him in grave danger. It's one of those things where you may think, "Oh, I'll hold off, I don't really need it." The preventative measures that it provides are just so powerful and it really can save lives even though it's just an inspection tool. I highly recommend that all shop owners have one.
